  13. INTRODUCTION

  15. Getty is a CLI only tool to monitor the serial port. It basicly  does  the
  16. same thing as Matt Dillons Getty, but in a more elegant, amiga like way.
  17.  
  18. My implementation of Getty is as following:
  19.  
  20.   * The first Getty is started as a  server,  the  following  Getty's  are
  21.     started as independant client processes of the server.
  22.  
  23.     The only thing that was really annoying in Matt's Getty  was  that  if
  24.     you had e.g. five serial lines, you had to start five Getty's ---> you
  25.     had to have the memory for five Getty's, because Getty was loaded five
  26.     times into memory, although it was the same code.
  27.  
  28.   * I added a  more  comfortable  commandline  parsing,  where  much  more
  29.     actions can be taken.
  30.  
  31.   * Several actions can be taken, if a certain user is logging in.

  33.     For example
  34.  
  35.       - an external programm can be started, like a Mailbox  or  something
  36.     similar
  37.  
  38.       - a remote shell can be opened,  where  the  user  can  access  your
  39.     computer
  40.  
  41.     The access the user has can be  limited  (e.g.  forbid  access  to
  42.     certain paths or commands) using a seperate access file
  43.  
  44.     If  you  have  the  MultiUser  filesystem  by  Geert  Uytterhoeven
  45.     installed, the access control is even better!
  46.  
  47.       - all the actions the user is taking can be  echoed  to  a  seperate
  48.     snoop file (even a CON: window will do)
  49.  
  50.   * Everything is definable (e.g. you can define the command to open a new
  51.     shell or you can define the behavior of the serial line ....)
  52.  
  53.   * It's programmed in 100% assembler, resulting in highly optimized code
  54.  
  55. This is a shareware version which means that to get  all  things  working,
  56. you have to register.
